Sewing with big hearts

There are many ways that we share our love of sewing with our community. Our individual neighborhood groups have special projects, our chapter has community service events and we also coordinate and host the on-going Angel Gowns effort that has brought comfort to hundreds of grieving parents in our area. Check here often to keep up with all we are doing and find out how you can join us.

Donated wedding gowns become gowns for tiny angels

Angel Gowns

Our members meet once a month to sew small gowns using upcycled wedding dresses that are donated to us. These gowns are then donated to local hospitals and, if a baby passes, the parents are offered the gowns for burial.  See the pictures below of a few of the gowns they have made and donated.

We welcome volunteers to join us in making Angel Gowns. Join us on the second Friday of the month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Family Birthing Center Conference Room at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Entrance 2B.

We are unable to accept wedding gown donations at this time and in the foreseeable future. Little Angel Gowns in Indianapolis is still accepting wedding gown donations. Find them at: https://www.littleangelgowns.org/

Sew Fun Neighborhood Group's annual charity hits record for giving

Every year Sew Fun Neighborhood Group members make cosmetic bags and collect donations of sample toiletries to put in them. Leader Carolyn Hormann hosts a Christmas tea in December at her home and we fill the bags. This year we had a whooping 80 filled cosmetic bags for donation to Charis House for homeless women and children. See the photos from our tea and the filled bags below.

Members of our Sew Creative Neighborhood Group in Van Wert, OH made this Christmas delivery of cheery pillowcases they  made to their local Marsh Foundation Adoption Agency and Crisis Care.  Their delivery in early December also included blankets that members had donated.

Nearly 100 chemo caps donated!

We received this thank you note from Cancer Service of Northeast Indiana for our chemo caps donation.   Chapter members brought 58 chemo chaps they had made to our Annual Meeting held Sept. 7 , 2019 at the Aboite Community Room in Fort Wayne. Add that to the 40 we made at the chapter’s Chemo Caps Charity Sewing event Aug. 3 and we have donated a whopping 98 caps to the Cancer Services of NE Indiana.

We are proud to join ASG chapters across the nation who participated in this project. And special thanks to our members who are always enthusiastic and ready to sew to help others. Thank you to all of our members and friends who helped with this project! See pictures below.

Pillows to help grieving children

Here’s our hearty band of chapter volunteers after their hard day’s work at Erin’s House for Grieving Children. On Oct. 23, 2019, they finished making the many pillows project we began last year. The pillows of all sizes are used in their ‘Volcano Room’ where grieving children and teens go to release energy as part of their therapy sessions.

Many thanks to our special ladies who last year made 14 pillows during our day there and to Betty Davies and Karen Snyder who finished and made another 16 at home. And many thanks to our members, pictured, who completed the pillow project this year, including Janice Mullins (top left) who brought this worthy and fun community service project to us. Big smiles and big hearts all!

We just received this thank you from children at Erin's House. The card is handmade by the children they serve - take a look, it is precious!
