Mystery Quilt 2019

This is an annual event that many of us participate in - and we show off our creations to the delight of members at our annual meeting!  This year our members will be using our message board where supplies and any pre-Mystery Quilt Day directions will be posted, as well as step-by-step instructions presented throughout the day.

Mystery Quilt Day this year is Saturday, March 2, 2019. Once again - special thanks to Jenny Draper for leading this fun project day!  We will unveil our finished quilts for pictures at our Annual Meeting on September 14!

Below is a note from Jenny:

It is time once again for our annual Mystery Quilt.  I am looking forward to presenting this again this year as I know that is at least one quilt I will complete in 2019.  The clues will be sent our on March 2, beginning at 10 a.m.  All of the clues will be posted on GroupWorks, so it will be easy for you to pick up any clues you might have missed.   Another benefit to using GroupWorks is we can all see any questions that might arise as well as the answers. And there won't be a chance I might have someone's e-mail wrong.

Be ready to start sewing March 2 at 10 a.m. when the first clue comes in.

Here is the supply list and cutting instructions. You should be able to finish the top the day of the class if you have cut your pieces ahead.

Supplies: 1 40 strip jelly roll

                    1 1\4 yd border fabric

You will need  20 light strips and 20 dark strips. Need a good contrast between light and dark. The first one I made, had a low contrast and I wasn't happy with the results .But I know some child will love it.  It is kind of crazy looking but very colorful.  For my second try with this pattern, I am going to use 20 dark strips from a jelly roll and and .it 20 strips from some background fabrics in my stash .You have lots of options on this one. You can also cut all 40 strips from fabric in your stash. Cut them 2 1\2 in. wide and the width of the fabric .you must have 20 light and 20 dark.

Cutting instructions:. Cut each of the 40 jelly roll strips into the following

          Two  2 1\2 inch squares

           Two 2 1\2 x 5 1\2 inch rectangles

           Two 2 1\2 x 8 1\2 inch rectangles

Set aside the pieces you have left. You can use these for a Scrappy border if you wish.  Members, please comment on this post so I have some idea of how many will be participating.
