3rd Annual Bus Trip 2008

On May 3rd, 2008 we travelled to Louisville, Kentucky for our 3rd Annual Bus Trip. In the last two years, we’ve been west to Chicago and north to Grand Rapids for our fabric shopping sprees. Going south was an obvious choice for this year’s trip. It was a long way to go but worth it! Many thought this was our best trip yet.

Our first stop was the Forget-Me-Knot Quilt Shop. This store has at least 5000 bolts of fabric along with a large selection of books and patterns. They have a wonderful display of completed samples and projects to inspire you. The shop was very gracious, they would have been closed due to Kentucky Derby Day but opened their shop just for us! They served us refreshments, gave us a quilt label and a great discount on our purchases! Thank you, FORGET ME KNOT QUILT SHOP!

After a great lunch at the Piccadillly Cafeteria we went on to our second stop, Among Friends Quilt Shop. This shop has over 5000 bolts of 100% cotton fabric along with a wide variety of books, patterns and other quilt related accessories. The displays of completed items is very impressive, sure to get your adrenaline pumping to sew, sew, sew! This store also had refreshments, special offers available and a special demonstration for our bus guests. We learned a lot about Jelly Rolls and Layer Cakes. Many Thanks go out to Wendy, the owner and her great staff!

The final stop for the day was back in Indiana...Greenwood, Indiana that is. As one of the 2005 Better Homes and Gardens Top Ten Shops, The Back Door, Inc. had a lot to offer our bus group. Besides thousands of bolts of quilting fabrics, kits and patterns—they have a very large supply of 100% wool fabric. Many of us also enjoyed the folk art décor of this shop. Once again we were treated to special offers and great service, extending their hours expressly for our group. Thanks, Back Door!

To finish off a great day of shopping, we had dinner at Jonathon Byrd’s Cafeteria in Greenwood. We’d also like to Thank Kathy Gardiner-Norris, our bus hostess and Marty Loy, our driver…………you two are awesome!!!! You made our time on the bus a real blast!

Prizes on the bus, great shops, inspirational displays, discounts & special offers have made for one of our best trips yet, but the real bonus came from spending time with sewing friends, both old and new. You are what makes this such a great Chapter!

THANK YOU for being there!! For additional information available on the web for Among Friends is www.amongfriendsquiltshop.com and for Back Door Quilt Shop the website is www.backdoorquilts.com
